Description: When you hear the word "overdose" your mind automatically thinks of drugs. But the reality is even substances that are considered safe and healthy can become dangerous if misused. So in this list, I'll be showing you 5 Unexpected Things You Can Overdose On 5) Soy Sauce Despite it being beloved by millions across the world, have too much of it and you can suffer some serious consequences. For example, in 2013 a 19-year-old man from Virginia decided to drink 0.9 litres of soy sauce, after being dared by his friends. This lead him to fall into a coma where he nearly passed. The reason for this is simple. Soy sauce contains a lot of salt, and drinking lots of it means you can die from extreme levels of salt. Salt can become fatal because it draws water from your body including the brain. When the brain loses too much water, it can shrink and bleed. When the 19-year-old drank the soy sauce, he started having seizures. Luckily his friends took him to the hospital immediately where doctors were able to flush out the salt from his body. He woke from a coma after three days and was lucky to have survived without suffering any neurological problems. 4) Tea Tea is generally regarded as a healthy drink so its even more surprising you can overdose and die from it. Now don't get me wrong, drinking tea is safe and depending on the type of tea, healthy too. But an American man who drank many cups of iced tea every day suffered from kidney failure. Doctors discovered that his kidneys were extremely clogged and irritated. He was put on dialysis which he most likely has to remain on for the rest of his life. So what was it about the tea that caused his kidneys to fail. Its a chemical called Oxalate, which is found in black tea along with other foods such as rhubarb and spinach. Too much of this chemical can lead to kidney failure, and since the man was consuming 3-10 times more Oxalate than the average American, it lead to his kidneys failing. According to the Havard School of Public Health, drinking 4 cups of tea per day is a safe amount. 3) Tuna Most people know that tuna isn't recommended for pregnant women and small children. But other than that, eating tuna should be fine for everyone else right. Actually no, the problem with tuna is that it contains mercury. You see pretty much all types of fish contain mercury, especially raw fish. But the bigger predatory fish can contain more than others. Since tuna eat smaller fish, they naturally contain more mercury. Now eating tuna once in a while isn't going to do you any harm and there are a lot of health benefits of eating fish. But eating too much can lead to mercury poisoning since our bodies cant filter it all out. The early signs of mercury poisoning include poor coordination and numbness in fingers and toes. Long-term damage caused by mercury poisoning can include memory loss, kidney problems and death. So what is too much tuna? The FDA recommends no more than 170 grams of tuna every 9 days for someone weighing 68 kilos or 150 pounds. Eating a lot more on a regular basis can lead to mercury poisoning. 2) Muscle Cream If you suffer from aches and pains, you may have popped to your local pharmacy and picked up some muscle cream. These creams help relieve aches and pains but believe it or not you can even overdose on them. When you rub the cream onto your skin, your pores absorb the active ingredients. Too much of it can lead to an overdose just like any other medication. For example, in 2007, 17-year-old Arielle Newman passed away from overdosing on these creams. She applied the creams generously before track meets and over time the chemicals built up to toxic levels. This was sped up by the fact she was running since the extra heat would have opened her pores up and allowed the cream to be absorbed quicker. 1) Black Licorice Black Liquorice has a very distinct taste, some people love it others hate it. If you love it and are over the age of 40, you might want to think twice before binging on black Liquorice. The FDA released a report stating eating only 57 grams of black licorice every day for two weeks can cause heart problems. No one is exempt but heart conditions can affect people over 40 more dangerously. Black licorice contains a compound that causes potassium levels to decrease. When potassium levels fall, people are at a risk of suffering from abnormal heart rhythms, high blood pressure and even heart failure. If you already have an existing heart problem, it's probably best you stay away from black Liquorice. ------------------------------------------------------- Vlog Channel: youtube.com/more5 Twitter: twitter.com/OfficialAll5 Instagram: instagram.com/sam_all5 Snapchat: SamAll5YT Website: All5.me -------------------------------------------------------
